What moves the price
- Lawn size — a small town lawn takes minutes, a large lawn may need a ride-on mower
- Regular or one-off — lawn mowing on a fortnightly slot is quicker and cheaper per cut
- Grass length — long, wet or overgrown grass has to be strimmed before it can be mown
- Clippings — collecting and taking the grass cuttings away adds to the visit
- Edging and obstacles — trees, beds and slopes slow the mowing down
- London and the South East — mowing rates there sit above the rest of the UK
Domestic and garden services prices in the UK are up 24% over five years (ONS Consumer Price Inflation, Domestic services and household services, to 2026 August). Five years ago a typical lawn mowing would have cost about £30 — an estimate from today's guide price and that index, not a recorded price. Source: ONS MM23 D7E6 →

How to pay less
- Book a regular lawn mowing slot for the season rather than one-off cuts when grass is long
- Leave the clippings in your garden waste bin so the gardener does not charge to remove them
- Share a mowing visit with a neighbour so the gardener cuts both lawns on one trip
Before you book
- Clear toys, hoses and dog mess from the lawn before the mowing visit
- Agree whether lawn edging and taking the clippings away are part of the price
- Tell the gardener the cutting height you prefer, especially in a dry summer
- Leave the side gate unlocked or arrange access so the mower can reach the lawn
