What moves the price
- Regular round or one-off — a four- or eight-weekly window round costs far less per visit than a one-off clean
- Size of the house — a terrace has fewer windows to clean than a four-bed detached house
- First clean after a long gap — a neglected first window clean is charged well above the normal rate
- Upper floors — windows above the first floor are cleaned with a water-fed pole from the ground
- Inside as well as out — cleaning the insides of the windows can double the price of a visit
- London and the South East — window cleaning rates there run above the rest of the UK
Domestic cleaning prices in the UK are up 24% over five years (ONS Consumer Price Inflation, Domestic services and household services, to 2026 August). Five years ago a typical window cleaning would have cost about £25 — an estimate from today's guide price and that index, not a recorded price. Source: ONS MM23 D7E6 →

How to pay less
- Join a regular window cleaning round rather than booking one-offs — the per-visit price is much lower
- Ask for an outside-only window cleaning price if you are happy to clean the inside glass yourself between visits
- Add the conservatory or gutters to the same window cleaning visit rather than booking another
Before you book
- Upper windows should be cleaned from the ground with a water-fed pole where possible, as safety guidance on working at height advises
- Ask whether the window cleaner carries public liability insurance before the first clean
- Leave side gates unlocked on the window cleaning day so the back windows can be reached
- Agree how you will pay for each window clean, since many rounds are paid online after the visit
Window Cleaning cost: questions people ask
£12–£70 per visit, about £30 on average. A terrace on a four-weekly round is the cheapest; a large detached house on a one-off clean, inside and out, is the dearest.
Twenty minutes to an hour for most houses. A detached house with many windows, or insides as well, takes longer.
Most UK homes choose every four to eight weeks. Homes on busy roads or by the coast may need it more often.
Windows left for months carry more dirt, and the frames and sills need more work, so a first clean is usually charged above the round rate.
Inside windows, conservatory roofs and gutters are usually extras, priced on top of the outside window clean.
