What moves the price
- Shed size — a small six-by-four shed goes up in a day, a twelve-foot workshop takes two
- Timber and cladding — overlap sheds are cheapest, tongue-and-groove and pressure-treated timber cost more
- Base — a plastic grid, paving slabs or a concrete slab under the shed each add a different cost
- Supply or assembly only — fitting a flat-pack shed you have bought costs far less than supply and fit
- Roof covering — upgrading from basic felt to shingles or rubber membrane adds to the shed price
- Access to the garden — panels carried through a house or over a wall take longer to deliver and build
Domestic and garden services prices in the UK are up 24% over five years (ONS Consumer Price Inflation, Domestic services and household services, to 2026 August). How to pay less
- Buy the shed yourself and pay only for assembly if the base is already in place
- Use a plastic grid shed base on level ground instead of a concrete slab
- Choose a pressure-treated shed so you avoid paying for timber treatment every year
Before you book
- Most garden sheds are permitted development, but one near a boundary needs to stay under the height limit or have planning permission
- Check the ground for the shed is level and that the delivery can reach the garden
- Ask whether the shed installation price includes the base and taking away the packaging
- Power to a shed is notifiable work, so use a registered electrician for any new circuit
Shed Installation cost: questions people ask
£200–£2,000 per install, about £1,020 typical for supply and fit. Assembling a shed you already own on an existing base costs least; a large timber shed on a new concrete base costs most.
Small sheds usually go up in half a day to a day. Larger sheds and a new concrete base take up to two days.
Usually not. Sheds are permitted development as long as they stay within the height and area limits, with a lower height allowed close to a boundary. Listed buildings and conservation areas have tighter rules.
Paving slabs or a concrete slab last longest. A plastic grid or timber frame base is quicker and cheaper on level ground.
Electrics, removing an old shed and yearly wood treatment are usually priced as separate jobs.
