What moves the price
- Size of the bathroom — a small en-suite needs fewer tiles and fewer fitting days than a large family bathroom
- Grade of suite and tiles — budget sanitaryware and ceramic tiles cost far less than designer fittings and large-format porcelain
- Moving the layout — relocating the toilet or bath means new waste runs and more plumbing work for the bathroom fitter
- Wet room or walk-in shower — tanking, a level floor and a linear drain take extra days and materials
- Electrics in the bathroom — new lighting, an extractor fan or underfloor heating need a Part P registered electrician
- Where you live — bathroom fitter day rates in London and the South East run well above those in the North

How to pay less
- Keep the toilet and bath where they are so the bathroom fitter is not paying for new waste runs
- Buy a mid-range suite and spend the difference on good tiling, which shows more in a finished bathroom
- Ask for one quote that covers plumbing, tiling and electrics instead of booking each bathroom trade yourself
Before you book
- Ask who will certify any new bathroom electrics, as the work needs signing off under Part P of the Building Regulations
- Agree in writing what the bathroom fitting price covers, including strip-out, waste removal and making good
- Order tiles and the suite early, as a missing basin or tap can stall the bathroom fitter for days
- If you live in a leasehold flat, check the lease and get the freeholder's consent before moving a bathroom
Bathroom Fitter cost: questions people ask
£4,000–£15,000 per bathroom, with about £7,000 typical. A like-for-like swap in a small room with a budget suite comes in near the low figure; a large room with premium tiles or a wet room reaches the high one.
A straightforward refit takes one to two weeks. A wet room, a new layout or a room that needs replastering can run to three.
A like-for-like refit usually does not, but new electrical circuits must be certified under Part P, and adding a bathroom where there was none brings drainage and ventilation rules into play.
Only if the fitter is VAT-registered, in which case 20% is added. A sole trader under the threshold charges none, so compare quotes on the same basis.
Moving walls, replastering beyond the bathroom, new electrics elsewhere in the house and decorating other rooms are separate jobs.
They are Locufy guide prices for the UK, drawn from published UK bathroom installation cost guides — a national range, not a quote. Your bathroom's size, finish and layout set the real figure.
