No register applies
There is no register to search for eyebrow tint therapists in any of the four UK nations, and no licence to show. A brow tint sits outside the skin-piercing rules councils enforce. In Greater London a borough's Special Treatments Licence covers listed treatments such as massage and manicures; ask whether the brow tint falls inside it.
Ask which course they took for the brow tint, and who insures them for it. gov.uk →
Insurance that covers the brow tint
The insurance norm for eyebrow tint therapists is cover written for each treatment, so an eyebrow tint therapist whose schedule leaves out the brow tint is not insured for it.
Get the insurer's name in writing and check the schedule mentions the brow tint.
Trader status under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply when eyebrow tint therapists trade as a business: the brow tint must be done with reasonable care and skill, and if it is not, you can ask for a repeat or a lower price.
Confirm the trader badge on Locufy and hold on to the written booking. legislation.gov.uk →
Patch test before the treatment
No register or law sets a patch test, but it is one of the checks that matters in place of a register: an eyebrow tint therapist should test the product on your skin with enough time before the brow tint for a reaction to show.
Ask the eyebrow tint therapist when the patch test is done and how long they wait before the brow tint.
VAT
Brow tinting, lash tinting and henna brows are standard-rated at 20%. A salon past £90,000 of taxable turnover must register, charge VAT and list it separately; an eyebrow tint therapist working alone below that usually adds nothing.
Ask for the salon's VAT number and for VAT shown apart on the receipt. gov.uk →
A good answer: A test ahead of time, with a wait before tinting.
A good answer: A shade chosen against your hair and skin, mixed and checked by the eyebrow tint therapist.
A good answer: A barrier cream around the brows before the dye.
A good answer: A price for threading or waxing with the tint.
A good answer: A realistic time in weeks.
A good answer: Tint removed or lightened straight away, at no extra cost.
A good answer: Wash it off, stop, and get advice.
Getting the quote right
- Brow tint alone, or with lashes or shaping
- Patch test — free, charged, or a separate visit
- Henna brows priced separately
- Who actually attends: the eyebrow tint therapist who did your patch test, or another therapist, and whether that person is employed or subcontracted
- The VAT number on the receipt, with VAT apart from the tint and any shaping
Walk away if
- No patch test for a first tint
- No barrier cream around the brows
- Dye near the eye with no care
- A colour mixed without looking at your hair

AFTER
When the job is done
Hiring an eyebrow tint therapist: questions people ask
Not outside Greater London. In a London borough, ask the salon for its Special Treatments Licence before the brow tint.
A brow tint that falls below reasonable care and skill breaches the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Ask the eyebrow tint therapist in writing for a free redo; if that is refused or fails, ask for a reduction.
£5–£20 per session, typically around £10. Adding a lash tint or a shape, and a London salon, push it up. Our eyebrow tinting price guide breaks the figure down; to see what eyebrow tint therapists near you charge, search your town above.
Dye can cause a reaction, and the test is done ahead of time so it shows before the real tint. A careful eyebrow tint therapist does it for every new client.
Usually, with a colour chosen for grey hair; it may take longer to match.
Say so before you leave. The therapist can often lift it; a tint not done with reasonable care and skill is a reason for a fix or a reduction.
