What moves the price
- Area treated — eyeliner and lips need more precision than brows, so permanent make-up there costs more
- Artist skill — senior permanent make-up artists with strong portfolios charge more
- Top-up — the follow-up session may be included or added to the price
- Location — permanent make-up studios in London and Manchester charge more than those in smaller towns
- Corrections — fixing faded or discoloured permanent make-up costs more than new work
- Technique — powder, ombre and lip blush shading take longer than simple strokes
Hairdressing prices in the UK are up 26% over five years (ONS Consumer Price Inflation, Hairdressing and personal grooming establishments, to 2026 August). Five years ago a typical permanent makeup would have cost about £300 — an estimate from today's guide price and that index, not a recorded price. Source: ONS MM23 D7EY →

How to pay less
- Choose a permanent make-up price that includes the top-up session
- Treat one area at a time to spread the cost of permanent make-up
- Book a colour boost before the permanent make-up fades, which costs less than starting again
Before you book
- In England and Wales check the permanent make-up artist and premises are registered with the council
- Book a patch test with the actual pigment that will be used
- Tell the artist about cold sores before lip work, as antiviral medicine may be advised
- Ask to see healed results, not just fresh photos, in the permanent make-up artist's portfolio
Permanent Makeup cost: questions people ask
Usually £200 to £650, with £350 a common figure for one area. Lips, eyeliner and corrections tend to cost more.
The first session takes about two to three hours per area. A top-up is usually shorter.
In England and Wales the council registers artists and premises for semi-permanent skin colouring, with a special treatment licence in Greater London. In Scotland a skin piercing and tattooing licence applies.
Fading can be done with laser or saline removal, but it takes several sessions and costs extra. Starting with a softer shade lowers the risk.
Colour boosts after the first year, removal and corrections are separate. Ask whether the first top-up is included.
