What moves the price
- Pedal or Celtic harp — a full concert pedal harp needs a van and two people to move, so it costs more than a lever harp
- Playing time — a harpist covering the ceremony and drinks costs more than ceremony music alone
- Travel — harpists usually charge travel on top, and a long drive with a pedal harp adds noticeably
- Access at the venue — stairs, no lift or a long carry to a garden ceremony take extra time
- New pieces — learning a requested song that is not in the harpist's repertoire may carry a charge
- Peak dates — summer Saturday weddings are the busiest days for harpists

How to pay less
- Book a harpist for the ceremony only and use a playlist for the drinks reception
- Choose a Celtic harp for a small venue, which is cheaper to transport than a pedal harp
- Pick a harpist based near the venue to cut the travel charge
Before you book
- Tell the harpist about stairs, parking and the distance from the car to where they will play
- Plan a sheltered spot for an outdoor ceremony, as harps are sensitive to sun and damp
- Agree the pieces for each part of the ceremony and any song requests well ahead
- Check whether travel, parking and Congestion Charge costs are included in the harpist's fee
Harpist cost: questions people ask
Most UK harpists charge £250–£500 for a one- to two-hour booking, and about £350 is typical. Short ceremonies with a Celtic harp sit lower; long bookings with a pedal harp and travel sit higher.
Usually one to two hours, often covering the ceremony and part of the drinks reception. Longer bookings cost more.
Often, if there is shade and shelter. Harps are sensitive to rain, direct sun and cold, so the harpist may move indoors if conditions threaten the instrument.
Many will arrange a requested song, sometimes for a fee. Ask early, as arranging and practising a new piece takes time.
Travel, parking, extra playing time and amplification for an outdoor ceremony are commonly charged separately from the harpist's fee.
