What moves the price
- Valet level — an exterior wash costs least, a mini valet more, and a full valet with seats and carpets the most
- Car size — a large estate, SUV or seven-seater has more paintwork and interior to valet than a city car
- Condition — pet hair, sand, mud and stains add time to the valet and often an extra charge
- Mobile or fixed site — a mobile valeter brings water and power to your car, and some charge for that
- Add-ons — machine wax, leather feed, odour treatment or engine bay cleaning are priced on top
- Region — car valeting in London and the larger cities runs above smaller towns

How to pay less
- Book a regular mini valet rather than one heavy full valet after months of neglect
- Clear out the car before the valeter arrives so you are not paying for time spent tidying
- Ask about a lower price for a second car valeted on the same visit
Before you book
- Agree whether you are booking an exterior wash, mini valet or full valet, as the terms vary
- Mention heavy pet hair, child seats or stains when you book, as these change the valet time
- For a mobile valet, check whether the valeter needs your water or power supply
- Remove valuables and car seats, and point out any existing paint damage before the valet starts
Car Valeting cost: questions people ask
£35–£144, with about £77 the average. An exterior-only valet on a small car costs the least; a full valet on a large car or seven-seater costs the most.
Around forty-five minutes for a mini valet and two to four hours for a full valet. A very dirty interior or heavy pet hair adds time.
Usually, but runoff must not go into surface drains that lead to rivers. Many mobile valeters use waterless or low-water products, or a mat that collects the dirty water.
Valeting cleans the car inside and out. Detailing goes further, correcting swirls in the paint and adding protection, and costs more.
Paint correction, ceramic coatings and repairs to scratches or dents are separate services, though many valeters offer them as extras.
