BEFORE YOU BOOK

Check before you book

No register applies

No licence or statutory register applies to wellness coaches in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, and the title is not protected — anyone may use it. Accreditation by a coaching body is voluntary.

Ask the wellness coach which training and accreditation they hold and check it with the body that awarded it.

Protected health titles

A wellness coach may not call themselves a physiotherapist, physical therapist, dietitian or sport and exercise psychologist unless they are on the HCPC Register — using one of those titles, or implying it, without registration is an offence under the Health Professions Order 2001.

If the wellness coach offers injury treatment or diet plans under one of those titles, search them on the HCPC Register. hcpc-uk.org →

Insurance

No register sets an insurance rule for a wellness coach; professional indemnity insurance is the cover that pays if their advice causes you a loss.

Ask the wellness coach whether they carry professional indemnity insurance and with whom.

Trader status and the 14-day cancellation right

A wellness coach in business is a trader under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. A coaching programme agreed online or by phone can be cancelled within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013; if you asked for sessions to start in that time, you pay for what you had.

Get the wellness coach's programme, total price and cancellation terms in writing before paying.

VAT

Wellness coaching is standard-rated at 20% from a VAT-registered coach. A coach over £90,000 must charge VAT and show it as its own line; a coach under the threshold charges none.

Ask whether the package price includes VAT, and for the VAT number. gov.uk →

“What wellness coaching training do you hold?”

A good answer: A named course and body you can check.

“Do you work with my GP or other professionals?”

A good answer: Yes, and a wellness coach who refers when something is medical.

“What does the wellness package include?”

A good answer: Sessions, check-ins and resources, with a total price.

“Does a wellness coach like you sell supplements or tests?”

A good answer: No — or declared and optional.

“How will we measure progress with a wellness coach?”

A good answer: Agreed measures — sleep, steps, habits.

“Can you write me a diet plan?”

A good answer: General advice only; a clinical plan is for a registered dietitian.

“How do I end the programme?”

A good answer: Notice terms in writing.

Close the booking with a reviewReviews on Locufy come from real bookings like yours with this wellness coach. The make-it-right step is there first if something went wrong.

STEP 1Go back to the wellness coach firstExplain, in writing, what was wrong and what you would accept. If the coaching was not delivered with the reasonable care and skill that section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 demands of a wellness coach in business, section 54 gives you a repeat at no cost or money off.
STEP 2Try the make-it-right stepUnder four stars for a booked wellness coach, Locufy asks whether to pass it to them first; we follow it through before the review goes up.
STEP 3Trading Standards, through the helplineNo regulator oversees a wellness coach, so a wellness coach who will not engage can be referred to Trading Standards through Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 in England and Wales (0808 223 1144 in Welsh), Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 800 9060, or Consumerline on 0300 123 6262 in Northern Ireland.
STEP 4Small claims as the last stepWhere the wellness coach still refuses, the small claims routes run to £10,000 in England and Wales, £5,000 in Scotland under simple procedure and £5,000 in Northern Ireland, with no solicitor needed.
