Christmas mini-session dates are being set across Irish studios for mid-November, with one Co Mayo photographer listing four days from 14 November at €50 for a 15-minute session and one edited image. The same fortnight brings Santa grottos with printed photos from 6 November in Galway and 13 November in Waterford, while wedding couples planning for 2027 can budget against the latest national averages of €2,108 for a photographer and €1,779 for a videographer.

Mini sessions: 15 minutes, one edited image

Swinford Photography in Swinford, Co Mayo, is taking bookings for Christmas mini sessions on 14, 15, 19 and 20 November 2026. Sessions run back to back for about 15 minutes each, with a choice of two Christmas backdrops, and cost €50 for one edited digital image or €65 for the image plus one 10x8 and two 8x6 prints.

The studio's terms say late arrivals get a shorter session and edited images are delivered within 14 days, so a mid-November slot gives time for Christmas cards. Its booking page states that "spaces are limited and our mini sessions fill up quickly". Formats and prices vary by studio, so check what is included before booking.

Santa photos at the markets

Winterval in Waterford runs every weekend from 13 November to 23 December, and its Santa's Grotto under the Medieval Museum costs €26 per child with up to two adults free, each family receiving a printed photo of the visit, Travel Extra reported on 2 September. Tickets went on sale on 1 September and places are limited.

Galway's Christmas Market opens on Eyre Square on 6 November and runs to 22 December, with Santa's Grotto open Fridays 4pm–8pm, Saturdays 11am–8pm and Sundays 11am–7.30pm at about €20 per child including a gift, per Galway Tourism. Market stalls, the 32-metre Big Wheel and the carousel give plenty of backdrops for your own photos.

Wedding photography: what couples pay

The most recent weddingsonline national survey, based on more than 641 couples and reported by the Galway Advertiser on 8 January 2026, put the average spend on a wedding photographer at €2,108 and on a videographer at €1,779. The average wedding cost €34,392 excluding the honeymoon, with 154 guests.

Weddingsonline's previous write-up of its survey, published in October 2024, gave €2,094 for photography and €1,760 for videography, so the two figures have moved by less than €20 in a year. The same surveys show 23% of couples get engaged in December and 41% wait more than two years to marry, which is why photographers' calendars for summer 2027 and 2028 fill from January.

Drone footage: the rules

Any drone over 250g, or any drone with a camera regardless of weight, must have a registered operator in Ireland and the EU, the Irish Aviation Authority says. On 31 July 2026 the IAA and An Garda Síochána secured a conviction at Naas District Court against a pilot who flew without registration, exceeded the height limit in a restricted zone near Glasnevin and flew beyond visual line of sight.

The court ordered a charitable contribution, with a fine of €300 per offence if it is not paid. IAA inspector David Hansell said: "As Ireland's Civil Aviation Regulator, the safety of the public is our number one priority." Anyone hiring a videographer for aerial wedding or property footage should ask for their IAA operator registration number.

Dublin shoots on 10–13 November

Photographers and videographers working in Dublin city centre should note that extensive road closures run from 10 to 13 November for the European Political Community summit on 12 November and an EU leaders' meeting on 13 November, The Journal reported on 4 November. Merrion Square and surrounding roads close on 12 November, and restrictions around the Convention Centre and Samuel Beckett Bridge apply each day.

Access to homes and businesses near the venues stays open subject to security checks, and Dublin City Council advises extra travel time and public transport. Engagement shoots, headshots or property videos booked near the docklands or Merrion Square that week are best moved or rescheduled.

What it means for you

If you want family Christmas photos, book a mini session in the next two weeks: a 15-minute studio slot is typically €50–€65 at the Mayo studio above, and delivery takes up to a fortnight. For Santa photos, grotto tickets at Winterval (€26 per child) and Galway (about €20 per child) are limited and sell in advance.

Couples planning a 2027 or 2028 wedding should set aside around €2,100 for photography and €1,800 for video, based on the weddingsonline figures, and ask for the operator registration before paying for drone footage. Photographers, videographers and drone operators near you are listed on Locufy.

For providers: list your mini-session dates, duration, included images and delivery time in plain figures; state your IAA registration on any listing that offers drone work; and keep a 2027–2028 Saturday availability list ready, because the survey's December engagement peak turns into enquiries from the first week of January.
