ABOUT LOCUFY · 5 MIN READ
What happens between typing a service and someone turning up at the door: how results are ordered, what the checks mean, where the score comes from, and what never costs you anything.

IN SHORT
Locufy lists more than 730 services, from house cleaning and dog walking to electricians and kitchen fitters. Two kinds of provider sit behind them. Hourly providers are individuals: a cleaner, a gardener, a childminder, who set an hourly rate and are booked by the hour. Companies and sole traders are businesses: they quote by the job and have a listing at their own address with several services.
Every search starts with where you are. Give an Eircode, an address or an area and results are ranked by real distance, nearest first, with rate, rating, review count and distance side by side. The hourly rate you see is the rate you pay. Where a service has no provider near you yet, you fill in what you need and where, and Locufy's team looks for providers in that area and emails you, usually within a day or two.
Boost and sponsored placements exist and are labelled as such; they do not change the score.
For hourly help you send a booking request and the provider confirms, or you book instantly where the provider has turned Instant Book on. Providers keep a weekly availability calendar and must confirm their hours every month or they drop out of results, so the times you see are times that exist. Once a job is confirmed, calling and messaging open inside the app and your phone number stays private unless you choose to share it.
If you would rather not pick, post the job. Providers come to you, you compare, you choose. Posting needs no account.
Each check shows its state on the profile: in review, or accepted, with the date. For companies, registrations such as Safe Electric or RGI are supplied by the company with a link to the public register so you can confirm them yourself.
A review can only be left for a job that went through Locufy, so every review on a profile belongs to a real booking. Reviews run both ways: providers review customers too. If a customer is about to leave fewer than four stars, they are asked whether they want it sent to the provider first; Locufy follows it through, and whatever happens the customer then leaves the review they want to leave.
For companies, the Locufy score is an aggregation: the company's Locufy reviews together with its Google and Trustpilot reviews, each source shown with its own rating and count so you can see what a 4.8 is built on. How the score is worked out is published on the support page of the same name.
Every review earns the reviewer 100 points, worth €1, which turns into Locufy credit once €10 has built up. Credit lowers the hourly rate you pay until it is used up.
Searching, comparing, posting a job and getting quotes are free, and there is no booking fee and no subscription on top of a provider's rate. Customers who sign up and download the app get €10 of welcome credit, which comes off the hourly rate on bookings and never expires.
Locufy News is the newest part of the site: one section per topic, one new piece a month in each, written with the providers who do the work and with a source on every figure. Follow a section and the month's piece arrives by email the day it goes out. Discover, the feed of nearby work, offers and reviews from listed providers, is the other way to see what people near you are booking.
By the numbers — figures from the sources listed at the end of this piece.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
Nearest first, with rate, score and checks — no account needed to look. Not to search, compare or post a job. The app is where bookings, calls with your number hidden, notifications and your credit live, and the €10 welcome credit is available once you have signed up and logged into it.
Boost and sponsored results exist and are labelled. They change position, not the score or the reviews, which come only from completed bookings.
Review it. If it is under four stars you are asked whether to send it to the provider first and Locufy follows it through; you keep the right to publish the review you want either way.

The no job, no review rule is the reason I trust the scores more than the ones on the big review sites.
From the provider side the monthly availability confirmation is a nuisance for exactly one minute and then it is why the calendar is real.
Credit coming off the hourly rate rather than the whole booking took me a second read, but it makes sense.
