What moves the price
- Income sources — each extra source such as rental, dividends or self-employment adds work to the return
- Self-employed accounts — preparing sole trader figures from records costs more than a simple return
- Capital gains — share or property sales need extra calculations on the Self Assessment
- Record quality — tidy, totalled records keep the Self Assessment fee down
- Timing — returns handed in close to the January deadline can cost more
- London firms — accountants in London often charge more for the same return
