What moves the price
- Area of tiles — a shower enclosure is a few hours, a fully tiled bathroom is one to two days
- Raking out — hard cement grout takes far longer to remove than soft or crumbling grout
- Tile size — small mosaic tiles have many more grout lines than large-format tiles
- Grout type — epoxy and anti-mould grouts cost more and take longer to work than standard grout
- Mould and damp — tiles that have let water behind them may need drying or refixing first
- Location — tilers regrouting in London and the South East charge above the national average

How to pay less
- Regrout the shower at the first sign of mould before water gets behind the tiles
- Clean the grout lines regularly and ventilate well so new grout stays white
- Have grouting and resealing done on the same visit, so the bathroom work is paid as one call-out
Before you book
- Check for loose or hollow-sounding tiles, which need refixing before any regrouting
- Plan to keep the shower out of use until the new grout and sealant have cured
- Choose a grout colour in advance, as matching existing grout is never exact
- Clear toiletries, mats and screens from the bathroom before the tiler arrives
Grouting & Re-Grouting cost: questions people ask
£80–£285 per job, with about £250 typical for a whole bathroom. A small shower area costs least; a large bathroom with floor tiles costs most.
A shower enclosure takes a few hours. A whole bathroom takes one to two days, plus curing time before it gets wet.
Usually, if the tiles are sound and firmly fixed. Regrouting refreshes the bathroom for a fraction of the cost of new tiles.
A grout sealer helps resist stains and mould in a shower. Some anti-mould and epoxy grouts do not need it.
Replacing cracked tiles, retiling and fixing a leak behind the tiles are separate jobs.
