Appliance Repair cost in the UK
£60–£300 per repair. Typically £125.
Most household appliance repairs in the UK cost £60–£300, with about £125 a common bill. The fault matters more than the machine: a blocked pump or a worn seal is cheap, while a motor, compressor or control board pushes the price towards the top of the band.

What moves the price
- The fault — clearing a filter is a short appliance repair, while a new motor or control board is the dearest
- Parts — a drive belt costs little, but a main circuit board can be most of the bill
- The diagnostic visit — many engineers charge to find the fault and take it off if the repair goes ahead
- Gas or electric — a gas cooker or hob repair needs a Gas Safe registered engineer, which can cost more
- Integrated machines — appliances built into kitchen units take longer to slide out and refit
- London and the South East — appliance engineers there charge noticeably more than elsewhere in the UK

How to pay less
- Check the appliance filter, fuse and plug yourself before booking a repair visit
- Ask whether the diagnostic charge comes off the appliance repair bill if you go ahead
- Compare the repair quote with the price of a new appliance before agreeing to major parts
Before you book
- Note the make, model and serial number from the appliance so the engineer brings the right parts
- Check whether the appliance is still under the maker's guarantee or an extended warranty
- Search the government product recall list, as some appliance faults are fixed free under a recall
- For a gas cooker or hob repair, check the engineer is on the Gas Safe Register and ask to see their card
Appliance Repair cost: questions people ask
£60–£300 for most repairs, and about £125 is common. Simple faults sit low in the band; a control board or compressor in London costs the most.
Most are done in one to three hours on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, the engineer returns to fit it.
Yes. Under the Consumer Rights Act a faulty appliance must be repaired, replaced or refunded by the retailer, so check that route before paying for a repair yourself.
Often when the machine is seven or eight years old and needs a major part, or when the repair approaches half the cost of a new one.
A new appliance, installing it, and taking the old one for recycling are separate costs.
