BEFORE YOU BOOK
Check before you book
No register applies
No law licenses bid or grant writers in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Past bids, honest success rates and references are the checks.
Ask the bid writer for examples of similar bids and their outcomes.
Where public contracts are published
There is no register of approved bid writers; what is official is where contracts are advertised. Contracts Finder lists government contracts above its threshold, Find a Tender lists high-value contracts, while public bodies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland also use separate procurement sites. The rules in each notice govern the bid.
Download the full tender pack from the official portal and give it to the bid writer. gov.uk →
Copyright in the written answers
Bid answers are literary works under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, owned by the writer unless assigned to you in a signed document. That decides whether you can reuse them.
Agree in writing that you own, or may reuse, the answers. legislation.gov.uk →
Honest evidence
Claims in a bid are checked and may become contract terms. Data protection rules, enforced by the ICO, apply to staff CVs and case-study details included.
Check every claim and get consent for any personal details used. gov.uk →
VAT
Bid writing is standard-rated, so a registered bid writer adds 20% to the fee and to any success fee paid when you win. Registration becomes compulsory once a bid writer has VAT-taxable turnover over £90,000 in any rolling 12 months; from then VAT must be charged and shown as a separate line on the invoice.
Ask the bid writer for the VAT number before the tender work starts and for VAT on the fee and the success fee shown separately. gov.uk →
