About Wolds Inn
The Wolds Inn stands in the village of Huggate on Driffield Road, and claims to be the highest pub on the Yorkshire Wolds, around 170 metres above sea level. The building dates from 1592 and is known for a local story: the artist David Hockney, who worked summers stooking corn in the fields nearby as a youngster, had his first drink here and ended up over-indulging. The bar and restaurant serve traditional pub grub, snacks and a blackboard of specials, and a wood-fired pizza oven has recently been added. Christmas brings menus, a wreath-making session and a Christmas fair. You can eat in or take away, and tables can be booked. Rooms, campervan spaces and a beer garden complete the offer, and the surrounding Wolds suit walkers and cyclists.
