What to bring
To complete your National Car Test (NCT) smoothly, NCT recommends you bring a valid photo ID (driving licence or Public Services Card), your vehicle’s registration certificate or logbook, your booking confirmation, and payment for the €60 test fee if you haven’t paid online.
Before you go — a quick NCT check
Worth five minutes in the driveway. Most of these are quick to put right, and cheaper to fix now than to re-test.
- Tyres — tread, pressure and no damage or cracking. Tyres are the item the most vehicles fail on nationally.
- Brakes — no grinding, no pull to one side, and the handbrake holds on a slope.
- Steering and suspension — no knocking over bumps and no play in the wheel.
- Lights — headlights, brake lights, indicators, reversing and number-plate lights.
- Wipers and washers — blades intact and the washer bottle filled.
- Oil and coolant topped up: a centre can refuse to test a vehicle that is low.
- Seatbelts all present, undamaged and retracting properly.
- The car clean inside and out, boot and glovebox empty and unlocked.
- Dashcam and any OBD-port device unplugged before you hand the keys over.

What cars fail on most — nationally
National figures for 2024, not this centre's — the RSA publishes the reasons cars fail for the country, and the pass rates centre by centre. They are still the right things to check before you drive over.

FAQs
What if I can’t get an appointment before my disc expires?
You should check online, but only about one-third of overall slots are shown on the web portal at any given time. You must add your car to the NCT Priority List during the online checkout to be offered a cancellation slot within 28 days.
Can I test my car early?
Yes, you can complete a voluntary early test up to 90 days before your due date. Your new certificate expiry date will be calculated forward from that successful test date.
How long is a standard booking lead time?
It varies by centre and by time of year, and the online portal shows only part of the capacity at any moment. If nothing suitable appears, add your car to the NCT Priority List during checkout — that is what puts you in line for a cancellation slot.
What does the test cost?
A full test costs €60. A visual re-test is free; a test-lane re-test within 21 days is €40. The full fee table is above.
What is the cancellation policy?
You must cancel or reschedule your test at least 4 working days before your appointment. Cancelling later than that carries a €24 fee, added to your next booking.
Are dashcams allowed?
No, the use of dashcams and any recording devices is strictly prohibited inside the test center. You must turn your dashcam completely off before hand-over.
Should I remove my child car seats?
No, you can leave them in, but the inspector will check that child seats are properly secured. If they are fitted loosely, it can cause a test failure.
What about the glovebox and OBD port?
Your glovebox must be left unlocked and completely empty. You must also unplug any telematics, tracking, or dashcam devices connected to your vehicle's On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port.
What is a "Fail Dangerous" result?
This means the vehicle has a catastrophic defect that poses an immediate risk on the road. A sticker is attached to the car, and it is illegal to drive it out of the center. You must have it towed.
What is a "Fail Refusal"?
The center can refuse to test your vehicle if it is too dirty, lacks engine oil/coolant, has untidy or missing seatbelts, or if you fail to provide a valid driving licence at check-in.
