The Forge Restaurant & Bakehouse serves breakfast, lunch and Sunday lunch in a 300-year-old former forge at Kilbride Cross, near Ballon in County Carlow. The building was once a steward's house, a forge and a post office, and it was renovated, keeping the original flagstone floors and sash windows, before being reopened in 2025 by Phil and Kay. The breakfast menu runs from a full Irish to smashed avocado and pancakes, with coffee. Lunch changes every week and covers seasonal plates, sandwiches and salads. The Sunday lunch is a roast with all the trimmings. Gluten-free options are available, and it is about five minutes from Altamont Gardens. You can eat in or take away.
